For the past year Spencer has been telling Madi to read the Harry Potter series. She would always protest and say she KNEW she wouldn't be interested.
Right at the beginning of Christmas break - I think around December 15th, Spencer started reading Harry Potter with Elle at night. Madi started listening and would sometimes sneak the book to read on her own. She ended up checking out her own copy of Book #1 at the library and finished within the week. She loved it so much she drew all the characters and hung them up around her bed.
It was the perfect time to get hooked! Christmas break allowed Madi a lot of time to read.
By the time we left for Utah Madi was already on book 3 but forgot to bring book 4 with her! It was killing her to not have #4 to read on the drive home from Utah.
Madi kept a record in her planner of when when finished each book. . .
Friday, January 13th she finished book #4
Elle had just finished reading book #1 so we watched the first Harry Potter movie that night.
One week later, on January 20th Madi finished book #5.
A week and a day later (on the 28th) she finished #6.
Then on February 2nd Madi finished her last book of the series!
I'm actually happy that she's done now. These books pretty much consumed any extra time she had. She's now finishing her Shakespeare series that she got for Christmas and has taken an interest in Law books. This girl is a reader! One of her goals for the new year is to be the smartest kid in her 4th grade (and 5th grade next year) class!
